Words of Love…THe Buddy Holly Legacy
?Words of Love is Daphne’s passionate tribute to the Buddy Holly legacy, the 50th anniversary of a fatal plane crash of February 3, 1959. Paul McCartney and John Lennon took their name, The Beatles, as an homage to Buddy’s group, The Crickets, and they claim that at least 40 of their songs were modeled after Buddy Holly. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards feel that Buddy Holly was their biggest musical and artistic influence. Don McClean, Procol Harum. Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young and Eric Clapton’s Derek and the Dominoes lay claim to the legacy. These classic rock and folk ballads are newly arranged by Doug Levine and John Marcinizyn.
“?Daphne’s distinct voice and warmth are a treasure. She’s interesting and diverse and we’re so proud to present her here at Bricolage..."
—?Jeffrey Carpenter, Artistic Director, Bricoloage Theatre, Pittsburgh
Songs that Oscar Taught Me
?Daphne affirms the revered place that Oscar Hammerstein occupies in the annals of musical theater. “Oscar Hammerstein was an idealist who loved life and believed in people with all of their foibles and strengths. When I read or sing his lyrics, I feel enveloped in that love, that hope for humanity and the joy of living, loving and gratitude. He also was
a fierce fighter for the common good and abhorred injustice, racism and cruelty, a gentle soul who was also given
to fits of fury if the situation demanded. I gotta love a man like that, that’s a guy I want to celebrate, have over
for dinner and share this great friendship with friends.”
“?Oh what a beautiful evening…Daphne’s gorgeous voice mesmerized
the audience with an eclectic array of Hammerstein songs."
—?Maggie Forbes, Carnegie Music Hall
An American Girl in Paris, WORLD WAR II
Daphne sings Piaf
The World War II era is filled with poignant, passionate ballads. Some of the best of American and English tandards join the evocative chansons of Edith Piaf and Marlene Dietrich in this colorful, poignant program, which continues to tour in the 2006 season.
“Many years ago, I was drafted into the army and stationed in France. I have forgotten so much over the years, but one of the things that I remember are the misty cabaret clubs in Paris, where I loved to go for refuge. Tonight, Daphne took me back there, to all of those years ago, and I was eighteen again.”
